Skiing, Snowballs, and Basketball

Saturday wasn't especially busy for me, but it sure was busy for Raef.  He got up early in the morning to hit the slopes with his dad. Zach didn't want to get cold, so he opted to stay home.  On the way up, our neighbors Brennan and Peyton and their grandpa got a ride for a skiing lesson.  Raef and Rinar ate a pancake breakfast and then a whole lot of skiing.  They even did a black diamond level run. Wow! They have come a long way from last year.  I think that Raef is developing a real love for the sport.

In the afternoon, all the boys went outside for a snowball fight. Reno got an unexpected snowstorm on Friday night and the kids just loved playing in all the white stuff.

Then in the evening, Raef was off to basketball. They had a skill assessment day to figure out how to divide up the teams equitably. Raef did really well. I think basketball is going to be a great fit for him. I can't wait to see the kid play.

Winter is a Bummer

This winter has been a real bummer. I know we have a harrowing driveway and we should be grateful that the winter has been very mild, but I am not.

It is now the end of February and we have only had to use the snow blower one time. That is it.  It has only snowed a handful of times. The kids have so much fun playing in the snow. They all get bundled up and spend hours outside.

Raef spent about two days working on these snowmen. They are replicas of everyone in the family, pretty much.  The signs in front say "Welcome Home".  He had a blast doing this and the little ones were right there helping him.

Last year was record snowfall and this year...no snow. I should probably be grateful that we have gotten off so easy, but I am not.  After living in Las Vegas for the past 7 years, it has been a big letdown. Of course, you never know. There is always March and stranger things have happened, but I am not counting on it.

For Real Snow

Finally, our first real snowfall. We got a few inches on Saturday morning and this is the second layer.  Rinar, Raef, and Zach woke up early this morning to clear our double switchback driveway.  Unfortunately, we don't have any salt, so I guess I am stuck at home today.

Sledding

We actually got a little bit of snow on Monday and the kids made the best of it.

And then she was done.

Don't You HATE Global Warming?

** Okay, I must add this observation on, after looking at all the other Las Vegas snow blogs. Do you people seriously own scarves and mittens and boots and all of that stuff? I barely have a "coat" for each of my kids. I mean, look at my poor child in this picture. No gloves, nothing. Why should I buy that stuff? We never see snow and it rarely gets below 50 in this town. As the day wore on, my kids were using socks as gloves. There must have been 10 wet pairs strewn across my staircase.
